Engineer Goby (Pholidichthys leucotaenia)
Species Information Care Level: Moderate Temperament: Peaceful Diet: Carnivore Reef Compatible: Yes Max. Size: 12 inches Minimum Tank Size: 55 gallons Approximate Purchase Size: 2 to 3 inches
Notes: The Engineer Goby is also known as the Convict Goby, Convict Worm Goby or Pacific Neon Goby.
The Engineer Goby drastically changes its appearance throughout its lifetime, as a juvenile it has a black body with a horizontal white stripe. As it reaches adulthood the markings turn horizontal and run the length of the body.
To be successful with the Engineer Goby requires an established 55 gallon larger aquarium with plenty of live rock and a sandy substrate so it can burrow. It needs plenty of hiding places and peaceful tankmates. Small groups seem to do better but must be all introduced at the same time.
The Engineer Gobys diet should consist of a variety of fresh or frozen seafood, brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp.
